About The Bierkeller Schunklers

The Bierkeller Schunklers are a Bavarian showband from the Midlands, formed more than 25 years ago and well known around Solihull, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire. They play nationwide. Their site says they have entertained audiences of up to 5,000 people and worked at over 2,000 corporate venues, among them Butlins, Pontins, Center Parcs, RAF camps, Army and Navy bases, race courses, bier kellers, theatre restaurants, hotels and village halls.

They call themselves a German Oktoberfest oompah band like no other, and the act pairs live Bavarian music with modern comedy, songs and interactive party games. The players perform as comic characters with names such as Little Willy and Herman the German. Published reviews describe a conga line through a festival field at Camper Calling and another through a pub beer garden. Each performance is adapted to the event, with audience participation promised.

Bookings range from a solo performer to an eight piece band, which lets them work to most budgets. For weddings, Christmas parties and corporate events they offer a full show, background music for a drinks reception or meal, or both in one booking. Background sets use an electronic accordion that reproduces piano, trumpet, violin and clarinet sounds, or a plain acoustic accordion. They also play German Christmas markets and New Year's Eve.

Questions About The Bierkeller Schunklers

What do The Bierkeller Schunklers play?

They play the usual Bierkeller favourites plus a range of songs from traditional to rock and roll, according to their weddings page, and have a large Christmas repertoire for seasonal bookings. The show combines the music with comedy and party games. Their site does not publish a set list, so individual song titles are not available.

How many players are in the band?

Anything from one to eight. Their site says they can meet most budgets by changing the size of the band, from a solo performer up to an eight piece. The Meet the Band page introduces five characters, with accordion, tuba, tambourine and saxophone among the instruments named, so the full show line up is built from those players.

Where do they travel?

Anywhere in the UK. They are best known in the Midlands, including Solihull, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire, but their site states plainly that the musicians play nationwide. Past work listed includes Butlins, Pontins, Center Parcs, RAF camps and Army and Navy bases, which are spread across the country.

Can they play a wedding?

Yes. Their weddings page offers three options: a full show for the main function, background music during the wedding breakfast or evening reception, or background music for the meal followed by a full show in the evening. The background set can use an electronic accordion with piano, trumpet and violin sounds, or an acoustic accordion for a softer sound.

Do they do corporate events and Christmas parties?

Yes. Their site says they have played corporate events and Christmas parties for over 25 years and have worked at more than 2,000 corporate venues. For Christmas they offer Bavarian Christmas background music for a drinks reception or dinner, a full show, or both, and they are also booked for German Christmas markets, Winter Wonderland themed events and New Year's Eve.

How long do they play and what do they need at the venue?

It depends on the event. Their site does not give set lengths, prices or technical requirements, and the size of the band changes from solo to eight piece depending on the booking. Send your date, venue and the type of show you want through the quote form on this site and you will get an exact answer.
