About The Oktoberfest Band

The Oktoberfest Band are a Manchester based oompah band who prefer to call what they do Oom Pop. They keep a handful of Bavarian classics in the set, but most of the night is given over to modern hits reworked for brass, with tunes by Beyonce, Dolly Parton, Rick Astley, The Proclaimers, Queen, Oasis and the Village People, plus a few Manchester anthems for good measure.

Their show is built around audience participation. From the first number the frontman, a Manchester native, teaches the room German drinking songs and dances, and the band say that joining in is not optional. They perform in lederhosen and dirndl. The players have appeared on television and radio and have worked with Embrace, Doves, Paloma Faith, Mel C, Lily Allen and Craig David.

They take bookings across the UK and abroad for Oktoberfest nights, weddings, corporate events, bars and festivals, and name Manchester United, Amazon and EE among past clients. One of their largest shows, in 2023, drew a crowd of more than 2,500. September and October are their busiest months, with 35 gigs across the two in one recent year, and the season is usually fully booked by February.

Questions About The Oktoberfest Band

What kind of music do The Oktoberfest Band play?

They play Oom Pop, which is their name for modern pop and rock hits arranged for an oompah band, alongside a few Bavarian classics. Their site names Beyonce, Dolly Parton, Rick Astley, The Proclaimers, Queen, Oasis and the Village People among the artists they cover, and promises some Manchester anthems too. They will consider special song requests if given notice in advance.

How many players are in the band?

Their website does not give a fixed number of players or list the instruments, so the size of the band depends on the event. It does say that every member is a seasoned musician with television and radio appearances behind them. To find out how many players would come to a particular date, the quote form on this site will get an exact answer.

Where do they travel to?

They are based in Manchester and are available for hire across the UK and internationally. Their site carries pages for Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Birmingham, Nottingham and Yorkshire as well as Manchester. September and October are the months most in demand, and the band say they are usually fully booked for the Oktoberfest season by February, so early enquiries are wise.

Do they bring their own sound equipment?

Usually yes. They can supply a high spec PA, microphones and a mixing desk, and ask organisers to talk this through with them before the day, particularly for a large event. At bigger shows the client normally brings in an outside AV company to look after the sound. They can also play outdoors, provided there is shelter or cover in case of bad weather.

Is the show interactive, and can they roam?

Yes on both counts. The whole show revolves around audience participation, and from the start the band teach the crowd German drinking songs and dances. For weddings they can be booked as a roaming brass band during the drinks reception, and they also offer pop up performances, which are sometimes arranged as a surprise for the guests.

Are they suitable for weddings and corporate events?

Yes. They have played many weddings, often for couples who first saw them at an Oktoberfest event, and usually provide the evening party. A DJ add on package is available to cover music for the whole day. On the corporate side they list Manchester United, Amazon and EE as past clients, alongside bars, festivals and large Oktoberfest events.
