The lowdown
About DDFK Oompah Band
DDFK started in 1995 as Die Dorf Fest Kapelle, founded by tuba player and frontman Geoff Moore to play traditional Bavarian oompah, polkas and waltzes. Over time the band added German Schlager hits, drinking songs and familiar pop anthems, and in 2016 the name was shortened to DDFK. Their site describes them as London based and profiles a tuba player who also sings, a saxophonist, a trombonist, a trumpeter and a drummer.
Organisers can choose between three formats. The Stage Show is a full live set played from a fixed performance area, suited to festivals and large events. The Bierkeller Show sends the musicians among the tables in traditional Bavarian dress to lead toasts, comedy and group singing. DDFK E! Oompah is a three person touring version that plays over produced backing tracks, so it needs less stage space and simpler travel.
They have been the resident band at Munich Cricket Club in London since 2016, playing every Thursday and Saturday night. Other credits on their site include matchdays at Craven Cottage for Fulham FC, the Royal Air Force, Hickstead, and appearances alongside German Schlager singer Peter Wackel in Nürnberg, Köln and Mallorca. They have also performed in Germany, Dubai, Malaysia and Singapore, and take enquiries from across England, Scotland and Wales.
